Top 4 Food Debates That Could Ruin Your Relationship

Whoever said love conquers all, has probably never had a “what should we eat for dinner” argument with their partner. While everybody has a right to like and dislike whatever they want, food debates can be exhausting! Perhaps, even annoying enough to destroy romantic relationships and friendships. Just kidding (kind of). But, if you want to keep your relationship going strong, stay away from the following food debates – no matter how passionately you may feel.

1. Brownies: Edge Piece vs. Middle Piece

Brownies can be extremely polarizing – some love the crispy edge pieces while others prefer the gooey center cuts. In fact, the debate on which piece is superior is so heated that some restaurants have started labeling their brownie pieces to avoid aggravating customers.

However, for argument’s sake, one might point out that the whole point of eating a brownie is to enjoy its blissful, chocolatey, soft texture. And, this delicious experience can only be derived from the center cuts. Often, the edge pieces are too crispy, which can compromise on the taste and fudge texture of your brownie. But, of course, this all depends on how the brownie is prepared.

2. Pineapple on Pizza?

One of the biggest food debates in the last decade is whether it’s acceptable to have pineapple on pizza or not. To some, the combination of the sweetness in the pineapple and the saltiness of the ham, cheese, and tomato sauce is a match made in heaven. But, for others, this combination is just messy (i.e. the juicy pineapple makes the pizza crust soggy). Hence, the anti-pineapple-on-pizza crowd would rather stick to classic pepperoni pizzas.

Today, more and more people are warming up to the Hawaiian pizza. And, since the customer is always right, many restaurants – including old-school Italian pizza eateries – have given in to the requests of the masses. So, while it may look like pineapple pizza is winning this food debate (for now), preference will always depend on an individual’s taste buds.

3. Pancakes vs. Waffles

This is a tough one, as both breakfast foods are bread-based, lightly sweetened, and full of flavor. Pancakes come in so many delicious flavors, like blueberry, buttermilk, chocolate chip, Nutella, cinnamon roll, and so much more. One the other hand, waffles are versatile just the same. You can have them for breakfast smothered in delicious syrup or as a healthy late-night snack with peanut butter. Therefore, to get to the bottom of this food debate, we’ll have to introduce the toppings.

Pancakes soak up syrup and tend to become soggy, thus making them difficult to eat and carry on the go. Conversely, waffles trap the syrup in their small squares, which allows them to stay crispy longer. You can even have them to-go. As a result, waffles narrowly take the lead on this one. But, the debate will surely live on forever.

4. To Twirl or Cut Spaghetti

There isn’t a specific rule as to whether you should cut or twirl your spaghetti noodles. Although, it’s important to note that Italians – the creators of pasta – don’t cut their spaghetti. But, however, you choose to enjoy, keep the following considerations in mind for good table manners:

  • Never twirl up your pasta against a spoon – always use a fork.
  • Twirl small amounts of the pasta with the fork against the side of the plate, so that you don’t leave any dangling pieces.
  • If you choose to cut your spaghetti, use the side of your fork. Don’t use a knife.
